In Voltaire's "Candide", Candide ,at the end of the story, concludes that it is best to tend one's own garden.
This saying is often given as an excuse for not being active in social movements.
For me ,it means that you need to be involved in your own community.
Often activists tend to be more like tourists as they go where the action is instead of establishing roots.
Even the US War in Iraq has roots in your community.
In Tampa,it's easier with a VA Hospital and CENT COM here.
I don't see the war ending unless the people, who fight it,decide not to.
That view is from my limited experience as a combat veteran, who eventually refused to support the US War in Vietnam.
The US military isn't a democratic institution,so a soldier risks their life and freedom when they stand against the war.
The people, in the current US military, have often joined due to financial reasons.
There is no guarantee of a job or paid training to be able to get a job in the US.
There are areas, with in the US,where they are no longer jobs that pay a livable wage.
I don't see homelessness or poverty as healthy choices that sane people would make.
I know that there are plenty of corporate whores, who are paid great money to disagree with me.
