I'm working on a fictional autobiography that mentions my time in basic training at USMC's Parris Island in 1966.
I was a plea bargain from the Bronx,New York and I already saw myself as a prisoner of war.
I read all that I could on Vietnam and its people before I got there.
It was impossible to see a government that let heroin be dealt in my neighborhood, would be on "the right side" somewhere else.
I did well in basic training as I could use the training against "the real enemies" when I was "free".
I was always amazed by people, who claimed that they supported the war but they avoided the war.
They didn't even take a support role, for example sending time at VA hospitals.
Some of them, even defended making large profits off of the war without spending one cent to help those who fought it.
It's the SOS today!
It makes me think that the only true war is the class war.
It's foolish to expect those ,with wealth and power,to care about working class people dying ever.
The current president, and his family and cronies, love their money and power.
It is foolish to think that they care about the death of US troops or any Iraqi people.
The death of working people is seen as the cost of doing business in "their world".
